MP3: @CORASONTHEGREAT "Neverland" Ft. Ace Hood & DJ Khaled

Hot on the heels of the early 2014 momentum created by his buzz-worthy “Crowned The Greatest” track (featuring rap veteran Jadakiss), which was culled from his well-received Privileged Struggle mixtape and circulated amongst hip-hop’s tastemaker club/radio DJS, Yonkers, New York’s own CORA$ON THE GREAT (AKA Beazy) bounces back with another aural stunner, titled “Neverland.” Released by New York-based Blue Light Media, the sexy swag-laced track features CORA$ON’s dependably on-point and tongue-twistin’ verses amidst an infectious Autotune-fueled hook and laidback groove which boasts the instantly familiar flavor of hip-hop notables Ace Hood and DJ Khaled. Having piqued the interest of core hip-hop internet stations, club/mixtape/radio DJs and online-savvy listeners alike with the radio-ready, street-slick glide “Crowned The Greatest,” CORA$ON has every intention of building on that informal introduction, while connecting with the urban audience-at-large, with the immediately infectious “Neverland.”

Indeed, the talented New York-based rapper/songwriter has the skill of immediately entering the music consciousness of core urban music fans with a sound that strikes as familiar, without sounding like something or someone we’ve heard before. Be it the hit-bound, mainstream-ready gloss of “Crowned The Greatest” and “Neverland,” to the eerie/gritty bump of “Corner Boyz” and instantly catchy bounce of “Got Damn!” Beazy is definitely coming forth with his own distinct sound. “My sound is something old, but new,” CORA$ON deciphers. “I like to do the things that are familiar to the ear, but still a part of what’s going on right now.” Hence, his sound incorporates everything from hip-hop and R&B, to pop.

“I’m influenced by all the greats. I’ve listened to all genres of music, from country to hip-hop.”

While the summer of 2014 will certainly mark his long-in-the-making debut as an artist, CORA$ON is certainly no newcomer to the inner-workings of the music industry. Already a noted and platinum-proven songwriter for co-writing older sister Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair” smash (as well as other songs on her popular No More Drama CD), he already has several songwriting awards under his belt and secured a publishing deal with Universal Music Group. Definitely not one to ride anyone’s coat-tails or compromise his own work ethic, CORA$ON has since focused on creating his own musical journey. “Having a sister who’s already a legend in the music industry, who’s created such a legacy for herself, is great,” he reasons. “As far as the music industry is concerned, it can be a double-edged sword [at times], because it’s a lot to live up to. She is so great at what she does that the expectation is through the roof.”

With the formal release of “Neverland,” CORA$ON is certainly on track to blaze his own trail while matching those aforementioned “though the roof” expectations with ease.
