5 Rappers That Deserve WOAT Status: XXL Freshman 2016 Edition

5 Rappers That Deserve WOAT Status: XXL Freshman 2016 Edition

After getting off to a good start with last year’s edition of our “5 Rappers That Deserve WOAT Status” editorial series, The DigiSpot brings it back again for 2016. Now, it won’t be everyday that I say this but the 2016 XXL Freshmen cover has been a big inspiration behind this year’s edition. So who are this year’s 5 rappers that deserve WOAT status??? Find out below…

  • Desiigner: It was only right to jump this edition off with the newest signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music record label. As most people have complained, the mainstream rap game already doesn’t need Future. So why litter commercial rap with a copycat??? I’ll never understand why his first single is a hit but maybe you can help me out with that as you give the music video for it a watch below…

  • Lil Yachty: A few weeks ago, I didn’t know who the hell this guy was. A few weeks later, I wish I never knew who he was especially after knowing that he rep Quality Control Music (a record label that exercises anything but quality control), which told me right then & there everything I needed to know about him. If you’ve given Migos & OG Maco your ears, then shouldn’t expect anything different from Lil Yachty.

  • Lil Dicky: I previously had no knowledge of this guy until about a year or 2 ago when I heard his debut album (keeping in mind, he’s an indie artist) ‘Professional Rapper’ outsold Migos’ major-label debut album ‘Yung Rich Nation’ in first-week sales. Not that I’m surprised that he has a following (with him being white & the fact that it takes next to no effort to build a fanbase nowadays), but nothing he says makes me want to jump up out my seat & say “Yo, this shit go hard tho!!!”

  • Dave East: I remember when Nas signed him to his Mass Appeal Records label about 2 years ago & with somebody with as much talent as Nasir, I was surprised that he made a pretty questionable decision as it shows with this signing. Signed to a label that boasts talent such as: Boldy James, Pimp C (R.I.P.), Mannie Fresh, & J Dilla (R.I.P.), East was better left off the roster.

  • Lil Uzi Vert: With all the recent disappointing signings from Philly, this has to be 1 of the worst out of that group. Growing up on talented artists such as: Schoolly D, The Roots, & Beanie Sigel, it’s sad for me to see that this is what Philly has to offer nowadays. But then again, I’m not surprised that he’s on the mainstream radar when I see that Meek Mill & Ar-Ab have been given the same platform.

As with last year’s edition, this list is in no particular order.

Do you agree with this list or nah??? Let it be known with your votes below…
